La Piccioletta Barca - Issue 19

We are open to submissions in all forms and genres, be they classical or experimental.

We do not require any institutional affiliations or previous publication history; all submissions are judged based purely on the value of the piece itself.

As ‘artistic quality’ is a very subjective notion, we would recommend familiarising yourself with the content in the journal before submitting. The work we have already published is a good indicator for the styles to which we are partial, and thus, more likely to accept.

Keep in mind that in a collected body of work (such as a journal), the individual quality of the pieces is as important as their integration within the whole system. Thus, a rejection does not necessarily mean we did not enjoy your submission, but merely that it may not ‘fit’ with the rest of the pieces.

Contributors retain all rights to their pieces, and are free to reprint them in other publications at any point in the future.

Due to funding limitations, we are currently unable to provide any payment to our authors. We will however do our best to publicise and promote their work.

For any further questions regarding the submission process, please get in touch at: contact@picciolettabarca.com, or using the contact form on our website.

We are open to both classical and experimental prose. While there is no minimum word limit, we strongly recommend that you submit pieces below 5000 words.

Include up to 5 poems, with no restriction regarding the style. The titles and the line breaks should be clearly marked.

Please provide a short 100-200 word text to accompany the pieces you submit, giving context to the project and the motivations behind producing it – good reference for such texts can be found in articles in the ‘Visual Arts’ section of our Archive [ https://picciolettabarca.com/visualarts/ ]. Moreover, the quality of the images should be sufficiently high (minimum 2500px), unless you are submitting multiple files. If so, please group them in a .pdf file for the initial consideration, and we will request high-resolution images upon acceptance.

If submitting only an audio-file, please note that we are unlikely to accept pieces over 10-12 minutes long. If the audio-file is accompanied by a music video or a text, then these restrictions can be lifted.

If submitting an audio-file or video, a tentative limit on its duration would be around 25 minutes. If the interview is submitted in text form, the 8000-word recommendation applies.
